Hello everyone, We have been asked back to share our Irish Dexters at the North Texas Irish Festival. I hope to take our little "wee mamas" but they have been holding out on me and we do not have calves yet. No worries, I feel we should be fine as the date is March 2-4.... here is a link to their website....http://www.ntif.org/performers/horses.html If I feel it is too much for our little Mamas Clar and Carlin are willing to step up and I feel our past training will give us a head start on their doing well with the crowds. Now that I have a hoof in the door...I am hoping to sweet talk them into giving us a wee bit more billing for our Irish Dexters. Still, getting invited back is a huge compliment. We will also be taking our O'Sparky, Curly Mustang Stallion. Someone suggested having him "cut" one of the cows out of the two. I replied are you kidding? Our girls are like; feed me and rub my belly{:> Plus, our O'Sparky is such a gentleman he munches hay with them so forget that! We will just do what we do best...Strut our stuff and look pretty! Hello friends, This year we were a bit apprehensive about taking our Mama girl, Arlana and her new calf to the North Texas Irish Festival. Baby Aoibhinn was still quite young and both our are adorable "wee ones"{:> But, we woke up Saturday, March 3rd to a beautiful day and decided to give it a go. Our drive is easy only 30 minutes into Dallas so our plan was to come home if things did not go well. Plus, we were taking our Curly Stallion, O'Sparky, to share for the US Wild Horse and Burro Association and most city folks have never met a Curly Mustangs. My sons was amazed that most folks did not know what a Stallion was either{:> But, O'Sparky is always a gentleman so he is often mistaken as a gelding. Our girls settled in nicely and was pleased with the nice green grass. Yes, Fair Park is a beautiful place and has lots of well manicured lawns with sprinklers. So, they were in good spirits until folks started coming by with their dogs and letting them come up to the fence panels to bark and sniff. A few folks thought it funny that our cow was so protective and charged at their dogs. Well, after a few shots of Irish whisky (oh, yes, we had a free bar for folks who participated in the activities) I had no problems asking them to keep their distance! I was proud of Mama girl and was concerning the same action as the dogs just did not understand. Heck, the humans did not either but that is to be expected when you are at a public event. For weeks I researched for our Fitzgerald Blue Tartan and bought two sashes and a stole from Scotland. I decided the expense was too much for kilts and would save it for next year's event. Then, fifteen minutes before our first presentation I found a great fella selling kilts and bought both my son, Nicholas, and friend Tom who was graciously riding O'Sparky for me. We got the whole set up for less than the sashes and stole cost from Scotland. I think the sweet fella took petty on us when I explained we were riding a Stallion in the kilts and were representing our beautiful Irish Dexters. I could not find one to match the guys but did get a nice solid black one with lots of pockets! I loved it! However, a stranger came up to me and asked if I understood that I was wearing a "utility kilt"? I said no, what is that and he replied that it was what the bar maids wore and the reason for the pockets were to hold the openers and tools needed to serve the beer. Always something to learn at the festivals. I thanked him and continued to ponder it a bit. By the end of the day our sweet Mama was quite tired and so was little Eve. It was gray, overcast and dreary Sunday morning so we did not stay. I felt one day was enough for the girls and honestly did not want to jeopardize our Mama's connection with her baby from the stress. We did several great photos so I am sharing. And, the wonderful lady who is in charge has already given us the Irish Festival date's for next year asking us to "save the date" and be there. Wahoo, we are excited to be asked to return and maybe creating a tradition for our wonderful Legacy Irish Dexters{:> Angie Gaines Fitz's Golden Dexters

Have had people show up with dogs in the cattle barns at fairs even though they are not allowed they do it anyway.
