First calf for the year born yesterday. I think the weather was better in March than it is now. Not to bad of weather just below freezing so the ground was crusted. Better then wet mud. It was 16 last night here. All in all he picked a good day. Tomorrow is suppose to be raining/ snowing.

It was 14 last night. I went out to take care of animals at 5 this morning. Mom was laying in the waste hay around the bale ring. Baby was no where to be found. I looked and looked and looked. Years ago I built a calf hut for the calves to get out of the weather and they never use it I think I only had one other calf ever go in it. Sure enough he was in there all curled up. One of the older momas was laying at the opening calf sitting. I knew his mom knew where she stashed him cause she was content. On the rare occasion they actually loose track of a calf they get quite frantic.
