It seems lots of reports of big calves this year. someone made a statement that it was the cold winter. I did some searching and sure enough colder than normal winters make calves bigger. Summer calves are also smaller than spring calves. It would seem to me that calves born in the south should be smaller than those up north but maybe not because the cows have adjusted to the climate they are in. beef.unl.edu/impacts-of-cold-weather-on-calf-weights
