went over to milk this morning and a cow that was due tomorrow is standing at the back fence screaming. Momma screams not I am hungry screams. so I went looking for her calf on the other side. It was still dark searched for a while but just could not find it. I knew it had to be there somewhere she was insistent that her calf was over there. I found him a few hundred feet out in the neighbors corn field all curled up asleep. she was very happy to have her baby back. I hate when the calves take off like that. They walked around a bit and then laid down together. hopefully he will stay with her now but I suspect he will go exploring again.

I miss my dog. She was the best at finding stray calves. Never missed one.
Oddly enough, there was a holly tree out behind the pastures that was the spot that two calves chose, years apart. Another spot in front of the pastures, just at the big rock, was also the spot where two calves were found.
Remember where you found this calf for future reference.

Yep they do tend to navigate to the same places. We had strong storms last night and he was gone again this morning. This time I knew momma new where he was she was not concerned at all. Until I started walking around looking for him then she started hollering for him but he ignored her. She told which direction he went and still it took me a long time to find him. He had decided to go visit the Colorado herd. Found him near them curled up in some tall grass sound asleep.
