On my way home today, I passed a couple of square bales of hay beside the road, strings busted and scattered. About a mile further, there was one still intact. It jumped into the back of my truck!
It was a lovely bale of hay. Smelled nice and was different from my native grass hay. I took it to the center of the pastures to give it to the Dexters.
Bambina spotted me first. She used her 'bugle' to alert the herd. Here they came, full speed! Cujo looked like he was running a steeplechase, jumping hurdles. He started last but arrived first, skidding to a halt. He did his job as a bull, breaking the bale apart and spreading it.
I picked out a few pillows to throw out to the shy ones. Cathy, Hannahbelle and even Eve had been holding back. Little Brenndan was in there shoulder to shoulder with them. Nothing bashful about that boy.
I picked out a couple of good pillows to take to the goats. We try to be fair around here. Every goat got a little pile of hay of its own. Of course, they then fought over who got which pile. Goats is goats, you know.
With the weather being as nice as it is today and free found hay for the livestock, it couldn't be much better.
